Andrew “Dru” Tarr of Gloucester took his first vote on Wednesday as state representative for the 5th Essex District, covering Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Tarr, who was elected March 31 to finish the term of his former boss, state Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, was sworn in by Gov. Maura Healey midday Wednesday.
Ferrante died at 53 on Thanksgiving after battling cancer, and Tarr, her aide for nine years, has been running her office since, providing constituent services.
