MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — The town is slated to receive several thousand dollars as part of the state Legislature’s effort to revitalize downtown areas throughout the state.
“I am excited to announce that Manchester-by-the-Sea is receiving $684,260 in construction funding through the Shared Streets and Spaces program,” said state Rep. Andrew “Dru” Tarr, D-Gloucester.
Sue Croft, the town’s grants and special projects coordinator, said the town intends to extend the existing School Street bike lane to the Essex town line at Atwater Avenue.
“This extension would complete bike accommodations along this corridor and give safe access to both the commuter rail station located just over a mile from Atwater Avenue and the Essex town line, as well as both the public schools in Manchester,” Croft said. “This project will improve the corridor that serves the new Cell Signaling Technologies campus and the Manchester Athletic Club (MAC) to provide safer passage for not only vehicles but pedestrians and cyclists as well.”
